Running In Seattle Update 20151029

October 29, 2015

One month to the Seattle Marathon.  I wanted to be farther along in my training, but I did make it through a 7.6 mile walk this week, which is a little more than half the distance of a Half Marathon.  I made it without injury.  A few more walks in the next four weeks ought to do it.  How about you?  Are you ready?  You can register for the Seattle Marathon all the way up to the Saturday after Thanksgiving.  Of course, the fee goes up again after the next cutoff November 17.

Today, I am adding to the calendar:

(1) a brand new run Color Me A Miracle to benefit Children’s Uncompensated Care Fund.  It is a color run, where participants are splattered with paint.

(2) the 15th annual Hopelink Turkey Trot.  This organization provides help to families in crisis.

(3) the 2nd annual CATurkey Trot.  This organization benefits animal rescue groups.

Calendar Additions:
Color Me A Miracle (5K, Seattle University near downtown Seattle, Sunday November 8).
Hopelink Turkey Trot (5K, Marina Park in Kirkland, Sunday November 22).
CATurkey Trot (5K, Fall City — 5 miles north of Snoqualmie, Thursday November 26).

Here’s the last Thanksgiving morning run I have for the running events calendar.  It’s the monthly Magnuson Series event offering a 5K and a 10K and a kids dash.

If for whatever reason you can’t get out on Thanksgiving Day for appetite-building exercise, there are some Thanksgiving-themed runs set up earlier in the month.  They include the 8th annual Snoqualmie Ridge Turkey Trot (5K) on Saturday, November 14 and the 7th annual Green Lake Gobble (5K and 10K) on Sunday, November 22.

Calendar Additions:
Turkey Trot (Magnuson Series 5K & 10K, Magnuson Park, Thursday November 26).
Snoqualmie Turkey Trot (5K, Snoqualmie Ridge, Saturday November 14).
Green Lake Gobble (5K & 10K, GreenLake Park in Seattle, Sunday November 22).

Get Your Rear in Gear — The Results are in.  The 5th annual event at Marymoor Park has ended, and the list of 5K finishers is available for your review.

Here are more fun runs for you to choose from for building your appetite prior to the big upcoming Thanksgiving Day meal.

The 13th Annual Gig Harbor Turkey Trot offers both a 5K and a 10K option.  The Oly Trot in Olympia is a 4mile untimed run.

Some of the Thanksgiving events may have different titles, but they are all runs for fun, and all of them benefit a worthy cause.

Run Results:
Get Your Rear in Gear (5K, Marymoor Park in Redmond, Saturday September 26).

Calendar Additions:
Gig Harbor Turkey Trot (10K & 5K, Post Office Parking Lot in Gig Harbor, Thursday November 26).

Running In Seattle Update 20150925

I think I’ve listed all of the Halloween-themed runs I could find.  This year, unfortunately, Pumpkin Push is on hiatus.  That event has been a mainstay of Halloween runs for years, but circumstances made the organizers cancel for 2015.  It should be back to continue their fund-raising efforts in 2016.

In the meantime, let’s turn our attention to seeking Thanksgiving-themed runs.  There’s LOTS of them, including many on Turkey Day itself.

There’s the 9th Annual Seattle Turkey Trot in Ballard, the Tacoma Turkey Trot in northwest Tacoma, and the Bainbridge Island Turkey Trot.  All of these runs will take place on Thursday, November 26 at 09:00.

Calendar Additions:
Turkey Trot (5K – untimed, Golden Gardens Park in Ballard — northwest Seattle, Thursday November 26).
Turkey Trot (5K, Fleet Feet store in northwest Tacoma, Thursday November 26).
Turkey Trot (5K, Battle Point Park on Bainbridge Island — 14 miles west of Seattle by ferry, Thursday November 26).
