Running In Seattle Update 20151102

November 2, 2015

The Pacific Northwest Sports Weekend:

Seattle Beats Dallas.
— The NFL Seattle Seahawks beat the Dallas Cowboys Sunday 23-22.  The Seahawks get to .500 while the Cowboys drop to 2-5.

Seattle Beats Dallas — The NASL Seattle Sounders beat FC Dallas Sunday 2-1.  The two sides play again next Sunday to determine who goes to the Western Conference Finals.

University of Washington Huskies rout Arizona Wildcats, beating them up by a final tally of 49-3.

Washington State University Cougars lose to Stanford Cardinal 28-30.  With the clock running and only 15 seconds for the Cougs to get on the field and attempt the game-winning field goal, the shot went wide right.  Other than the loss, it was the Cougs’ best game of the season!

Three wins, one loss.

Back to the calendar, an addition:  the 4th Annual Rogers Reindeer Run to benefit the Rogers High School Performing Arts Music program.

Run Results:
Halloween Run Magnuson Series (5K & 10K, Magnuson Park, Saturday October 31).
Calendar Addition:
Rogers Reindeer Run (5K & 10K, Heritage Rec Center in Puyallup, Saturday December 5).

Running In Seattle Update 20150923

September 24, 2015

Good News — for me, mentally and physically.  It’s been 7 weeks since my hip replacement surgery.  I was able to walk 2.4 miles in 3/4 hour today.  That’s a 50% improvement over a month ago.

When I began my physical therapy sessions, I walked to the clinic from home; it took 18 minutes.  It’s about 2/3 miles.  Yesterday, I was able to scoot there in 12 minutes.

With that achievement behind me, I’m signing up to participate in this year’s Dawg Dash.  For me it will be more of a Stroll rather than a Dash, as I am not going to attempt at all to run or even jog.  It will be an effort of Endurance; click to view cartoon: How to make myself do a 5K

Calendar Addition
:

Every month of every year, Club Northwest organizes a weekend run that takes place at Magnuson Park, by Lake Washington.  At this event, you can run the course one time for a 5K distance, twice for a 10K and three times to accomplish a 15K.  Coming up is the Halloween run, on Saturday morning, October 31; there will not be a 15K option at this session, but there will be a photo booth and a zombie station.

Take a short ferry ride across Puget Sound for the annual Spooky 12K at Port Gamble.  As usual, there will be a best-dressed contest after the run.

On the other side of the state comes the 7th annual Monster Dash in Spokane.  The best costume contest will take place before the run.

Many runs listed on Running-in-Seattle provide a course for a kids run.  All three of the calendar additions have free youth runs, 400 meters at the Magnuson event, and a 1-miler at Port Gamble.  At the Spokane event, the kids can go for a quarter mile, a half mile or a full mile, based on age.

Calendar Additions:

Spooky 12K (Port Gamble — 27 miles northwest of Seattle by ferry, Sunday October 25).
Monster Dash (5K, Manito Park in Spokane, Sunday October 25).
Halloween Run (Magnuson Series 5K & 10K, Magnuson Park, Saturday October 31).
